Should I be giving my dog with liver disease prednisone for thrombocytopenia?
I have a soon to be 2 year old chihuahua who has an undiagnosed liver disease $4000 later . She started to develop bruising on her belly and what appeared to be bleeding into her tissues one day in a matter of hours. Platelets are 10,000 terribly low. Vet recommends prednisone for a couple of weeks, but I know that it's not a gentle medication. SO, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with anything like this in their dog, I hate to think of her possibly bleeding to death, but the meds are making her so lethargic and sickly." not a gentle medication" because prednisone can cause many bad and some potentially permanent side effects and is especially rough on the liver. And if her thrombocytopenia is not immune related, this is only going to make it worse. Of course we do not have a definitive diagnosis as to why her platelets are so low but apparently this is the only option as a treatment. I am not ignorant rather am trying to minimize what could be a 3 page question if I were to type all of the details. And as the first person commented, I will resubmit this on the pet side. However a condition such as this does also effect humans in the same way, was hoping I would receive more intelligent answers here.

My husband was diagnosed with ITP not that long ago. He also had an h pylori infection as well, which with medicine, got rid of. We then tried rituxon infusions for 4 weeks and the doctor said its rose them to 75,000. However, he is still having nosebleeds, like he did before They want to put him on promacta but its a new drug and im worried about it. He does have an enlarged spleen as well. Doctors tell me its not severely enlarged though. Any one has itp or know of anyone that does? I know his platletes are getting better but for how long? and what is causing his nose to still bleed basically I have gotten no answers from the nurse who talked with us thursday she couldnt answer any of my questions about promacta neither, she told me to go home and research it I've done so and everything ive read scares me about it I also asked the doctor is itp can hurt his chances of having children as we have been trying for children for quiet sometime now with on success and he says no, but im starting to think it does. by the way he is 23.i am just really worried about giving him promacta. but there again i also know we need to control this one way or another. but promacta worries me, first because its new on the market and second WAY To may risks for him as with all meds but not like that. do you think a spleenectomy would help this issue???

i have little red spots on my arms and i had a nose bleed. but i get nose bleeds frequently so i dont know how serious it is. im only 15 and i hope its not severe. i dont understand how i could have gotten it. no one in my family has any issues with it.

My mom has been diagnosed with thrombocytopenia for a few months now, but she just found out 2day. her platelet count is like 30,000. She is a workaholic. She works from 9am 8pm everyday for 5 days a week, even harder than my father who works only till 4pm. and im scared that working too much has anything to do with it and she might have to quit her job to stop working too much. I recently saw purple bruises on my mom's arm which were gruesome. Im so scared, this is the first REAL disease that my mom really has and I really dont want my mom to die. I swear I'll kill myself when that happens '
I also have gestational thrombocytopenia, how can I get my platelets to go higher?
Thrombocytopenia and SEVERE fatigue?
I have thrombocytopenia, and I know how this sounds but I can't stop sleeping I live a very healthy lifestyle. But if I sit down for 5 minutes, I fall asleep. I have to sit down every hour and often literally can't get out of bed I can't explain it and go back to sleep for hours even after sleeping 10 hours. Getting into a 6 8 hour per night schedule doesn't really help. I have to take huge naps in between or I cannot function. I can't stay up no matter how hard I try. Please believe me when I say it's not my diet or lifestyle. What I'm asking here is, could this extreme fatigue along with the thrombocytopenia mean something bigger, like anemia or something?
