Info on c-diff and septic shock?
My dad is 73 y o with a large mass on his colon. Prior to the first attempt at surgery he had a heart attack which delayed the surgery and bough him to ICU. Shortly thereafter he became weak and did not eat. During the second attempt at surgery he threw up and Dr's are saying he has a hole in the colon which made toxins go into his system in which he swallowed his own throw up. Currently he is in SICU with c diff and septic shock. He is on 100 % breathing machine and his kidneys are not working. His stomach is protruding and he is swollen along with severe meds helping his blood pressure and heart rate. I am looking to see if anyone else had a family member go through this and or has knowledge of c dif and septic shock. Thank you for taking the time to read

Do you think it's fair to make a 15 year old to live through cancer that just went through septic shock too?
im her cousin and she one of the best friends a girl could be friends with. our whole school love her so much we take donations every week bc her parents can't afford treatment. but my cousin is on breathing and feeding tubes, can't talk right now, can't walk and can't take care of her own self. machines are keeping her alive. her kidneys and failing down and just she has gone through so much and i don't want to see her die but i know shes in pain. shes in a coma right now and me and her mom were talking to her and we saw a tear come from her eye. her parents want to keep prolonging her life and shes suffering. shes so young but i can't stand to see her suffer. do you think her parents should let her go to heaven and be pain free?

If you have pneumonia, diabetes, septic shock what is the survival rate?
My brother was admitted to the hospital ICU with pneumonia, and is septic and he is also a diabetic. I was wondering what the survival rate is with these extenuating circumstances.

My spouse has suffered from septic shock as a result of c.diff. How long does it take to get over the symptoms?
He was successfully treated with Vancoymicin. Continues to be very weak. It is now 3 months later.

I had 7 teeth pulled, and within less than 2 days I went into septic shock. Could there have been connection?
My kidneys were shutting down along with all other organs. I didn't know my kids, what day it was.I was in the hosp for 12 days before I knew what had happened to me If my daughter hadn't checked on me I would not be here. It's been suggested to me I should get a lawyer and sue the dentist for not premedicating me. Honestly I would only want this man to be held accountable for what he did to me and my family

Might my wife have septic shock?
She has an appointment with the doctor next tuesday but I am hoping to get some info from some of you MedWhizzes before then. Last week my wife was reading about that diet where you eat high protein high starch meals in order to hold your bowels in for as long as you can between release sessions so your body continues to feed off the feces resting in your colon and rectum. I thought it was utter nonsensed but she insisted it would help her shave off 15 lbs in just 5 weeks without any real efforts. The last day or two she has been very ill. She is laying in bed sick now. She was able to hold her bowels 2 days in a row and then 3 days in a row. I told her there is NO more of this craziness because, believe it or not, and this is crude, her breath smelled of FECES She said she vomitted and she thinks there may have been feces in her vomit. She is now back to a regular diet and is doing her best to have more frequent release sessions but she is having a hard time of it. Please, any advice is appreciated, especially if it supports my idea that this is NOT a healthy way to 'lose' weight.

Like, what caused it and how they got it don't need the exact patho because I know it already and why they were prone to it. I need a scenario example for a project, and would like some pointers. Thank you

Info on Septic Shock, C-diff, etc?
My dad is 73 y o in SICU with C diff, septic shock, ARDS and DIC. He is currently on a breathing machine for almost 2 weeks. He is also receiving kidney dialysis. He has not urinated in almost 2 weeks and he has a partial lung collaspe along with fluid on the lungs. He has an irreruptable bowel and currently with a bag. He also has a large growth on his colon which at this point is unknown what it is. He is currently running a slight fever and on Fentinoyl for pain. There are been no reponse when he opens his eyes. His blood pressure has been mostly down however coming up slightly. They had to remove some pic lines because of all the infection in his body which is weeping out his skin. He is swollen however the swolleness has went down slightly. The ICU said he is holding on. I have been asking questions but I am not sure if I am asking the right questions. I certainly do not want him to suffer and now ICU is stating that you can only be on the breathing machine for a certain amount of time and a possible trach will be needed but there are high risks. I am searching for anyone with information and or who can help me to ask what questions I should be asking. I have done some research but what I read is not good. Thank you for taking the time and reading.

What causes Septic shock in otherwise healthy 35 yr old?
Today marks the 15th day that mu 35 yr old cousin Bobby is in ICU with septic shock. I need some kind of help. Here is the storyOn November 19th 2009 we got a phone call from my cousin that his brother was admitted into ST LUKE'S hospital and was unconscious. We rushed down to the hospital right away. Bobby had been found in his room on the floor unresponsive. When the EMT's got to him, his blood pressure was 60 34. They admitted him into ICU and further tests revealed that he had septic shock. Doctors had a meeting with the entire family that night and told us that his mortality rate was VERY VERY HIGH. They told us that Bobby's Kidneys and Liver were failing. His bowel system was completely shut down. The only thing Bobby has going for him is his age, and he has a strong heart. They said that had he been a 70 yr old man, they would be advising us to prep for a funeral. They maxed him out on Blood pressure meds, and also gave him dialysis treatments. His WBC were " astronomically high" . He is on a ventilator and oxygen. The next day they flew in platelets from Bergen county NJ. We went through this for a few days and Bobby started to respond to us. He shook his head yes and no, and had hand movement. On Monday 11 30 an Xray, and cat scan showed that Bobby had an air pocket in his intestine, they were not sure whether he had a hole in his stomach, colon, or intestine. Bobby needed emergency surgery, or he would die. The surgeon advised us all that Bobby's chances of making it through surgery were very low.. During surgery they removed a 3 ft section of his intestine, and his lower colon. They put him on a colostomy bag. After surgery his BP was 50 27.. They told us if he survived the night, it would be a miracle. So, Bobby made it through. The following day Bobby was bleeding out. His coagulation factor was well above 150 they told us they like to see it below 45. They began blood transfusions. From 1pm on Tuesday 12 1 to Wednesday 12 2 bobby received 15 units of blood 15 separate transfusions . They were changing his bandage every hr. The doctors advised us that it was now hr by hr for Bobby. Finally, yesterday Bobby stopped bleeding. He is no longer maxed out on BP meds and holding pressure on his own 146 80. My sister just called me and let me know that Bobby is receiving another dialysis and they plan on doing it for 3 and half hours. She talked to the Doctors, and they said that it's pretty much a wait and see thing. His WBC is still in the upper 30,000.. They told her they like to see it below 10,000. My question is what could have caused this? They say they don't know, and probably never will know. I see the mortality rate for septic shock is high, but even higher with multi organ failure. What can we expect? I heard it all from DR's, but sometimes I feel " wait and see" is scary to hear...I forgot to add that Bobby was on anti psychotic medication. He is schitzo effective. He was getting blood work done every two weeks to check his medication levels. This has been ongoing for the last 10 yrs. He is not a drinker, and he also has OCD. Other than that Bobby was otherwise " healthy" . Another thing... They had said Bobby colon was massively dilated. He did have constipation problems, however the surgeon told us that he does not believe this was cause by constipation because when he opened him up, the stoole was all liquid..I am very thakful for every one of Bobby's doctors. I understand the communication " barrier" when it comes to " wait and see" . I just read up on septic shock, and it's scaring me that after all this time, he could still die. . .He has held his own BP last week, however that changed rather quickly. Emotional Rollercoaster
