My father has copd,acute respiratory failure on 11 liters
My father has copd,chf,and acute resperatory failure and was intubated a month ago and was on a ventilator few about a week then they gave him a tracheostomy. He is now home and requires 11 liters of o2 constantly, Does anyone else know of anyone that has been through this btw he has been fighting chf since 2005 and just recently this year started requring extra o2 he was on 5 liters at home but now has progressed all the way to eleven liters, And btw he is a non smoker. Does anyone know the prognosis or experieced someone with a condition like his? He also suffered STEMI heart attack in feb 2 days ago 5 days left to answer.

I know you would have a high respiratory rate. But oxygen should still be moving in normally in and out of the lungs. THe only other thing that Im picturing is not enough blood going into the r. atrium, r ventricle, and pulmonary arteries and lungs. So does this cause respiratory failure?

Can anyone tell me in detail the etiology and pathophysiology of how Diabetic Ketoacidosis with severe metabolic acidosis can cause respiratory failure? I NEED DETAIL not on a molecular level but more of a what happens that causes respiratory failure to occur like what makes the lungs fail? Is it the acidity? Is it the high CO2? How does aciditic levels or high CO2's actually CAUSE our lungs to fail?I've been looking around the internet but still, nothing quite explains the mechanisms fully enough for me to grasp the concept.

Would it be ok if I took the over the counter drug, Dramamine for nausea?Will it even affect my respiratory or respirations like morphine, etc?Trying to be on the safe side...Yes, tried Benadryl, I do not like to take it often as it makes me very sedated.And do not intend on taking Dramamine that much either, as I have heard that Dramamine will make you very sedated.

Hi, i was admitted in the hospital as asthmaticus, hypercapnic respiratory failure and i had to be intubated and put on ventilator for a week. I was put into a steroid induced coma with paralytic drugs for 7days...i've been out of the hospital for over a month now...but i have the weirdest symptoms and wonder if anyone can tell me which are serious for me to go to the ER.I may be paranoid and overanalysing...but it's been an experience living thru this.Any advice would greatly be appreciated.Thanks for the helpI'm having muscle weakness but more in my hips and upper arm.I have headaches and night sweats, muscle cramps and tingling and soreness.My hands are always shaking and when I get stressed the shaking seems to be my whole body. Is this the medication still flushing out of my system? if yes how long should it take?Thanks again

we didnt know she had been taken in so she died on her own....... i want to know if she died a painfull death, ive heard people say they go to sleep and die that way but when we saw her after she had died she looked like she was in pain, her eyes were open and so was her mouth and her head was twisted at an odd angle. please tell me it wasnt a painfull death

It's a symptom of the disease they are testing me for. And I am having what the asthma doc called " asthmatic bronchitis" . I think that diagnosis may be wrong and the issue may be this second malady that causes " respiratory failure" .They are testing me for " polymyositis" .I asked a question...I didn't ask for links
