Please, can anyone tell me why pulmonary embolism is painful?

Will I know if I have pulmonary embolism?

Can they diagnose pulmonary embolism at a dr. office?
just curious.

Could a 16 year old have a pulmonary embolism?
I've been having pain in my rib area for a few hours now...a little below my heart area. It's not constant, but certain ways I stand, sit, or lay, it hurts. I also feel pain when I take a deep breath, but I don't feel any pain at all when I cough. The pain I feel is a sudden, " stinging" type pain. No tightness or pressure, and no tearing or stabbing, but a sharp, stinging pain.I'm also feeling anxious and nervous, both symptoms as well.I am in very good shape, I'm active, and none of the " causes" of a pulmonary embolism apply to me, but the symptoms sure do right now.PS is it safe to take Tylenol right now to stop the pain?

Dvt/pulmonary embolism?
Can you have a pulmonary embolism or a blood clot with out any symptoms?Lately I've been having a hard time breathing at times. I'm almost 25 weeks pregnant and I know thats normal, but I'm scared I could have or end up getting a blood clot in my lungs. What would the symptoms be?

If you pass out or 'die' from pulmonary embolism, is it still possible for an ambulence to revive and save you?

Would it be painful to die due to pulmonary embolism?

Are pulmonary embolisms genetic?
Basically, my mom doesn't want me to take birth control because she got an embolism from it and she's afraid I'll get it too. I know one of the side effects of taking birth control are blood clots. So are embolisms genetic? Is it possible that I can get it because she got it. I've done a little research and I haven't found anything that said that it is genetic.

Is it normal to cough up blood with a pulmonary embolism?
I come out of hospital yesterday after 4 night stay. After a CT scan and blood tests I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism. Now first day home and i'm on warfarin I have been coughing up small amounts of blood and its a real dark crimson blood colour, not tinged at all.Should I be worried? This is a new symptom.

Does this sound like a pulmonary embolism?
The past week ive notice my heart rate has been crazy. And ive been a little short of breath. Then about 4 days ago i had a stabbing pain in my shoulder which spread to my chest. It hurts the most when im moving around a lot or at night when im in certain positions sleeping. Its in the middle of my upper chest and kinda spreads to the left. Its not COMPlETELY constant...and it worsens sometimes. It hurts if i press on my breastbone. And it hurts if i take a breathMy blood pressure has been fineIm only 18, but im 31 weeks pregnant and obese and kinda inactive. So im at risk. What do you guys think? I dont want to go to the ER if i dont have to....im just worried about my baby.Im a little short of breath but not TERRIBLY.

Hi can you get a pulmonary embolism at 22? I been coughing and have chest pain for about a month.?
I don't have any blood clots though at least I don't think. Can you tell by a stethoscope? Don't you need blood clots to get it, also how long can you live with the clot.

I have symptoms of pulmonary embolism and my mom wont take me to the hospital. What should i do?

Pulmonary embolism recurrence risk?
I had a pulmonary embolism last March 2011 , and it was a rather scary experience, I am wondering what my chances are of having another one. I am only 27 yrs old and I had it after my pancreatic surgery, I guess I didnt get up to walk enough and removed my leg compressors not really sure what theyre called too often since they got itchy. I was given shots in my belly every day to prevent one from forming but it still occurred. Now I am back at work and I sit ALOT and I rarely leave my desk, I have also gone back to school so the majority of my day I am sitting. I dont get much of a chance to exercise, but I am overall healthy, not overweight, no serious illness that I know of. I have been feeling some pain behind my knee and I am a bit worried and will be going to see my dr. this week but I was wondering if this puts me at risk of having another one??

Pulmonary embolism in emergency room?
Hi there. My doctor raised concerns today about a possible pulmonary embolism based upon some vague symptoms I was having. Just a little short of breath I think it may be due to anxiety more so no coughing, bloody sputum, chest pain or etc. Just short of breath. Anyways he ordered for a PE CT scan but I can't go for that until tomorrow morning and I am supposed to leave on a flight at 10AM. My question is if I go to the emergency room tonight can they accurately diagnose a pulmonary embolism in the ER? What kind of tests will they use? Will they be as good as this contrasted PE CT scan or should I just hold off and do it in the morning and reschedule my flight?I dont believe I am in any true danger but I think having this concern dismissed will put my mind at ease for my trip. Also do I need to worry about an allergic reaction to this iodine contrast?
