Is there a cure for pleurisy?
I went in the ER and had some X Rays taken. The doctor diagnosed me with pleurisy and told me to take Tylenol or ibuprofen when it hurts. I've been hurting a lot recently and i don't have a cold or anything. I know Tylenol and ibuprofen can't fix me. what am I supposed to do?

Symptoms .Sharp pain in right side of chest when I breathe in.Spot on back perpendicular to spot on chest which is painful to the touch, though often numb.Short of breath.Panicky emotions though these are pretty normal for me, I am a hypochondriac in the making .Occasional feeling like I have to burp, but not being able to not a major symptom .When doctor pressed hard on spot on chest, it stopped hurting for a bitI have not been coughing, I have only had the pain in chest for a day thought the pain in the back for a few weeks and the doctor said it was stress. But I doubt stress could cause pain like this. I have read that it is extremely painful, and that this will result in liquid in the lungs of course, self diagnosis could be wrong . Some questions .How painful is pleurisy?.What are some symptoms?.Will they have to use a syringe to drain fluid?.Can pleurisy collapse a lung?.If this is pleurisy, how can I stop it spreading? I have some ibuprofen for my back. Will that stop the pain?Do you think this is pleurisy, or am I just paranoid? I am truly terrified.The doctor listened to my breathing and said it was normal, but it has only been hurting like this for a day. New question If there is liquid, how do they remove it? Does everyone with pleurisy have to have thoracentesis?
I have been told that I have Pleurisy by my doctor. She told me to take Ibuprofen 3 times a day for a week and come in a week if the pain hasn't gone. I think the pain may have got worse. I am going back to the doctors on Monday, and I was just wondering if she might give me Thoracentesis. I have been reading about it and I am really scared.
Having chest pain, nurse friend says pleurisy?
For the last few days I've been having chest pains in the center of my chest. It hurts when equaling after a deep breath, stretching and especially when bending over. The pain is pretty severe. Occasionally it hurts when I'm not doing anything, but not as bad. I asked a friend of mine who is a nurse what she thought it might be, and she said pleurisy. I looked into that online, but I'm not really having any of the other symptoms. I just want to have an idea of how serious this is before I go and spend a ton of money at the doctor for something that will pass. Any ideas?

Pleurisy Pleurisy refers to the inflammation of the lining of the cavity surrounding the lungs. It is also known as pleuritis. A viral infection is one of the most common causes of pleurisy, but it can also be caused due to a rib injury, formation of blood clot in the lungs, lung cancer, mesothelioma or autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus. The primary symptoms of this condition include acute chest pains when breathing and coughing. A person suffering from pleurisy is most likely to experience chest pain when deep breathing. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, fever, chills and dry cough. Though one may experience a sharp stabbing pain in the chest region, pleurisy could even cause a dull chest pain that may be accompanied by a burning sensation.I have a sore throat and coughing, a fever, and sharp chest pains wen i breathe but the sore throats been here for days and im just not getting the chest pain, although it might be a pumlinary embelism, as i have been lying in bed literally all day
Possible pleurisy,i have a lot of chest congestion, is this pleurisy or thick congestion?
I have had intense chest pain during the week. I have never had any chest pain in my whole life until after a few months ago i had an accident where i inhaled lots of chemical inhalants. However, now i have had a sinus infection and i have a lot of congestion. Except here lately, i have been feeling lots of pressure on my lungs especially when i breathe in. So, a few times i have had a burning sensation in my nasal cavity when i inhale, and i assumed this was just because of my inflamed sinuses. However, i feel pressure in my chest and yesterday it actually hurt to cough, it hurt my chest. However, oddly enough today when i cough somewhat i have no chest pain. It might just be heavy congestion, and i need to think out my mucus. I am taking mucinex and it has been helping me, however i used to have asthma as a child, and i always have fall allergic symptoms. I think i am okay its just sometimes when i breathe in it feels like i am hardly getting in any air. I am goign to keep taking mucinex, and just watch, because i sometimes feel my lungs feel odd, unless its just the heavy chest congestion.
Why does my 14 year old daughter keep getting pleurisy ?
This is her third case of Pleurisy and her doctor didn't say why she keeps getting it. Any ideas?

Lupus and pleurisy advice?
My sister is 23 years old she had went to the emergency room like 2 months ago because she was having bad chest pain.They had told her she has pleurisy so they put her on predisone . She started haing chest pain of this year and its been going on for 3 months. Not just that she gets headaches all the time pain in her arms, hands, finges, legs, toes . She is still having bad chest pain.Could this possibly be lupus because i heard pleurisy is associated with it.I hate seeing her suffer could someone please give me some advice.She was thinking maybe paying some money to see a rheumatologist.
Help! I think I have pleurisy!?
One side of my chest hurts. I can't lay on the right side without discomfort the right side is the side I think it is on . My stomach hurts too, when I lay on it. I haven't been coughing or anything, but I think I've only had it for a day I started hurting this morning . When I breathe in, it's like I'm being stabbed in the chest. It really hurts.Today I went to the doctor, and the lady was a quack. She kept telling me it was stress, and all in my head. It is not all in my head, that I can assure you. She pressed my chest really hard and the pain went away for a while, but then it came back. I took some Ibuprofen the doctor prescribed, and it helped for, like, five minutes. Then the pain came back. I tried a hot bath, and it did nothing. Also, it might not be worth mentioning, but about three weeks back and continuing to now a spot on my back perpendicular to the spot on my chest went numb, and it hurts when it comes in contact with something, and sometimes it just erupts in pain.I have been trying to diagnose myself, and I have come across pleurisy. It sounds right, like all of the symptoms are right. Now I'm scared. People who had cancer were saying that pleurisy was the most painful thing they ever experienced, and that they were curled up on the floor screaming in pain. Another guy sais they had to stick a huge needle in his back and drain liquid from his lung and that that lung was not functional .This terrifies me. I do not handle pain well. My god, I am nearly shaking with fright. It's only been one day, but it already hurts. I don't want to know what it will feel like in a week.And I just asked a girl out to homecoming today. It's in one week, and I can't be sick for that. I've been wanting to ask this girl out for a while. Oh my god, I'm going to miss homecoming, be in extreme pain where I wish I was dead, and have to have a twelve inch needle stuck through my back into my lung I am soooo scared.How can I prevent this from getting worse? Will it heal itself? Are the things I stated above the norm, or what? I am so scared. I think I am going to die of fright not literally, but I am trying to get across how terrified I am .Is there anything I can do to avoid this?Please, any help at all?On second thought, could it be asthma? That would be a big relief though this sounds weird . I would rather have asthma than pleurisy anyday But can asthma cause pain like that? Maybe not. Perhaps I am grasping on to straws...
Can pleurisy be serious?
I went to the hospital a week ago and they told me i had pleurisy. Well its been a wekk and now Im starting to have sharp chest and back pain. I also am having a lot of difficulty breathing especially when im laying down. Should I go back to the hospital or is this normal?
How long can Pleurisy last ?
I had Bronchitis bacterial type 8 weeks ago. I had so much congestion that I was coughingway to hard and it became uncontrollable. I have been to the ER several times my chest Xrays were clear but I was diagnosed with Pleurisy based on symptoms only.I have been on bed rest this whole time and the pain seems to be getting worse not better.I have had blood work and x rays all come back clean. I feel like I just had open heart surgery and I cant even wash my own hair or talk longer than a few minutes. How long can pleurisy last ?

Try to make a long story short.......went to the ER today upon docs orders to get the pain in my chest checked out. Been having it for 4 days, sharp feeling on left side of chest and radiates to armpit and left arm. Low grade fever of 99.5 and muscle fatigue. Ekg was normal, blood work fine and they did a chest xray. After all was done they told me it was pleurisy and to take ibuprofen. If I wasn't better by Monday come back. But I haven't been sick, no cough, runny nose, nothing I thought you had to already have something going on to get pleurisy. I'm 31, don't drink, don't smoke. Could they have been wrong?
