Would it be okay for me to take a scuba class 2 months after I had acute pericarditis?
2 months ago, I had a really short bout of acute pericarditis it only lasted a day, thanks to ibuprofen . I haven't felt any pain or discomfort in my heart since then. I had a little viral infection a couple of weeks ago, but that has pretty much subsided. I wanted to take a scuba class that would require me to submerge myself under 33 feet of water. Is it safe for me to do this?
Could i be suffering from pericarditis?
i have had this pain for over a year now. It is located right under my left breast. It hurts so bad sometimes, and the pain sometimes radiates down my left arm. I have ruled out heart attack cause the pain last to long and some of the symptoms dont match. I thought maybe it was costochrondritis but some of those sypmtoms dont match either. The pain comes and goes. When it comes it can last for hours to days to weeks. I have tried heat, wrapping my chest, rest, and NASAIDS. Nothing has helped. When I lay down to go to sleep it hurts no matter what side I lay down on. Its is ruining my life. I am a phlebotomist and work at a hospital. It almost makes it impossible to lean forward over the patients bed and take blood. Can anyone relate and give me some advice. Does anyone have pericarditis? What does it feel like? What steps can I take at home my insurance hasnt kicked in yet. ?
Dr. said it was Pleurisy, but could it be Pericarditis?
I know that the symptoms of Pleurisy and Pericarditis are very similar. Pleurisy being an inflammation of the lining of the lungs and Pericarditis being an inflammation of the lining of the heart. With both you have pain with movement. I have pain when I lie down flat, and I've read that that's a symptom of Pericarditis. And no where have I read that it's a symptom of Pleurisy. The pain is in the left side of my chest, in the area of my heart. But it could also be my left lung. It hurts when I get up from sitting or lying down. It hurts when I cough or sneeze. It hurts when I shift positions. But it hurts the most when I lie flat down on my back. The ER doc seemed to be in a hurry and wasn't too willing to stick around for my questions. I wonder if she didn't just go with the most common one pleurisy and failed to consider the more rare of the two pericarditis . Has anyone had one or both of these? Can you tell me what your symptoms were? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
