Low potassium (hypokalemia)?
Last week I was told that I probably had low potassium levels because of symptoms I described including extreme fatigue, fainting, palpitations and chest discomfort pain the latter probably anxiety following a gastro illness whilst on holiday and also being bulimic am trying hard to get into recovery . So I went to the doctors last week to arrange a blood test but couldn't get it done for 4 days. Following seeing the doctor I decided to eat drink a large amount of potassium for 3 days prior to the blood test in case this was the cause around 6000mg a day which I now know is the equivalent to 20x diarolyte sachets or 10x sando K drinks . By the time I had my blood test 4 days later my potassium level was at 3.7 normal is 3.7 5.2 so just about normal. I guess not that it matters now but I was just wondering if that intake of potassium " only" got it up to 3.7, what it is likely clinically that my levels had gone down to? I also still feel pretty ill but I guess this is normal following something like this? Thanks for any input.

What particular wave in the 12 lead ecg is missing if there is hypokalemia?

So, from what I've gathered drinking >2L/day & that combined with starvation = hypokalemia, yes?
Just wanted to double check really..Could be wrong, but I'm assuming this seeing as I read on some site somewhere that drinking water can flush out potassium & sodium so..

For hypokalemia patients, does alcohol and cigarettes affect our potassium level?

Are DKA pt's at risk for hypokalemia or hyperkalemia and why?

What are the manifestation of having a hypokalemia?

Can a growing cyst on your kidney that now causes pain cause hypokalemia?
the cyst appeared as less than a centimeter it is not perfectly round it has different measurements, about 8 years ago now it is over 5.6 centimeters by 4.5 centimeters, I have a constant pain in the front upper abdomen just below the rib cage. I now suffer from hypokalemia and have been hospitalized 3 times until my levels were acceptable, although it was other symptoms like fainting and chest pains that led to the hospitalization. I fear my doctor may be overlooking the kidney cyst as a cause.

Is hypokalemia temporarily?
6 months ago i was taken into the emergency room & i was diagnosed with hypokalemia. my potassium level got wayyyyyy to low. i wanna know if im gonna have hypokalemia for the rest of my life or if its gonna go away as long as i eat food that has potassium in it?

Is it okay to breastfeed if I have periodic hypokalemia(low in potassium) when I was pregnant?
My potassium level became normal just 1 week before I gave birth but still I can feel numbness on my hands especially when I lay down or sleep. I gave birth through Ceasarian Section last January 28, 2012 and before I left the hospital I have done test on my potassium and its normal. Now that I'm planning to breastfeed, I'm wondering if it affects my potassium level because until now there's still numbness on my hands and sometimes I feel weak. I have an appointment with my internist next week but still I want to know more of your opinion.

Fainted two hours after blood test?? Hypokalemia?
Last week i had a blood test and it said I had low potassium levels. I have since found out more about this and I think it is hypokalemia hypokalaemia . It said I had to go back for another blood test to see how bad it was. My symptoms were excessively sweaty palms, hair loss, irregular periods and constant exhaustion. we thought it would be my thyroid gland but it wasnt . I had another blood test this morning and felt fine after. then I went to school and was doing everything as normal, didnt feel faint or anything. then i was walking home two hours after the blood test and I fainted. I just felt a bit strange lightheaded, dizzy then the next thing I knew I was getting up from the floor. I didnt hit my head or anything. I have never in my life fainted before. Blood tests have never effected me either. Do you think this is because of the blood test or is it a symptom of Hypokalemia? Or do all these symptoms add up to something else? Thanks in advance I am a 16 year old female in the uk

Hypokalemia/Hyperkalemia?
I was diagnosed with hypokalemia on Saturday night with a level of 2.6, I was admitted into the hospital where I had to take a dose of potassium and stay on potassium IV's until 3pm, when they got my potassium levels to raise. For the past 3 days I have had to take potassium pills and then without thinking, I ate 2 bananas and a potato. Will this cause me to become hyperkalemic?
