Hypercalcemia
hypercalcemia Information
I've been diagnosed with hypercalcemia, how much weight will I lose?
I'm already quite thin 91lbs, 5'5" and I'm worried that I will lose too much weight because of the hypercalcemia. My doctor isn't prepared to give me many drugs to stabalize my condition various allergies and heart problems , so in the mean time, I don't want to lose any weight. I've actually been trying to gain. How can I do so?
Cancer and hypercalcemia ?
I have had mild asymptomatic hypercalcemia for about 4 years. It was discovered in a routine blood test. I have since had a parathyroid scan mri to rule out hyperparathyroidism which I don't have and all of my other tests such as phosphorous, vitamin d, albium, etc... have been within normal limits. The serum calcium levels have not risen since the initial blood test that revealed hypercalcemia but have remained in the 10.8 4 years ago to 10.6 very recently. My question is could I have undiagnosed cancer all this time and not know it ? Also, I am 16 weeks pregnant and am worried that even mild hypercalcemia will cause hypocalcemia or other complications in the fetus. Oh, also I have hypercalciuria so I do not have FHH. Pitzy if this helps, these are not the 1st blood tests I've ever had. I don't imagine that I always had hypercalcemia and it was NEVER diagnosed until 4 years ago. More like it developed and was just discovered 4 years ago. What kind of dietary issues could cause this ? I enjoy dairy but do not overload. Thanks

Multivitamins, lots of fruit/veg; is it poss that i could get hyperkalemia, hypercalcemia?
I take one centrum, and one 600mg calcium supplement each day along with a balanced diet that includes alot of friuts veg. I was wondering if it was possible for me to get hyperkalemia or hypercalcemia, or will my kidneys just excrete the excess vitamin electrolytes?
How does hypercalcemia result in renal failure?
Ok, I know in acute renal failure ARF , the decrease in glomerular filtration results in a retention of phosphate among other things...I know and leakage of intracellular phosphate into the interstitial fluids. This hyperphosphatemia inhibits the 1 alpha hydroxylation of 25 hydroxycholecalciferol to calcitriol. The resulting decreased plasma concentration of calcitriol causes skeletal resistance to the actions of parathyroid hormone causing hypocalcemia. Hypercalcemia in the oliguric phase of ARF is suggestive of a diagnosis of malignancy. So I can see how hyper hypocalcemia can result from ARF, but saying that hypercalcemia causes renal failure is a bit confusing to me. While studying up on multiple myeloma, I read that hypercalcemia can result in renal failure. The only answer I found as to how that could happen is that the hypercalcemia causes vasoconstriction in the glomerulus. Is there anyone that can shed some more light on exactly how this happens or if this is what happens at all?
