Will I be able to use electric recliner after hip replacement.?
It was purchased at a mobility store...raises me up to almost standing position and has many different positions. I sleep in it now. I can back into it and push button and it will go into seated positionthanks so much to all for your comments. the recliner does have firm arms... sounds like I will be able to use..will check with pt person when they come.
What to expect from a hip replacement (& how to manage pain/ADLs until surgery)?
Last January, 2011, I took a fall on ice while moving. It was a hard fall and I even knocked myself out because I fell backwards with a 50 lb box in my arms. After that I started having A LOT of issues with my left hip back leg. I stuck it out until after the move in because I thought it was just a strain, but it just got worse. I went to the ER in April 2011 because I couldn't take the pain any longer. At the time they told me I had MILD arthritis in both hips, a sports hernia & ripped psoas muscle. I did 6 months of PT, but no results.I stuck it out assuming this was going to be my new " baseline" . I was an athlete and used to sucking up pain . The pain became unmanageable about two weeks ago. I went for another x ray and the doc told me, " what a difference a year & two days make" . The time frame of my last x ray . He told me my left hip is SHOT from arthritis and I need a total left hip replacement ASAP. He prescribed salsalate & loritab for pain. neither are helping so I barely take them. Here part one of my question The pain is effecting EVERY aspect of my ADLs and I am practically crippled at this point. I can't get in to the orthopedic person until July. Does any one have recommendations that have help them deal with this pain, extremely limited range of motion and the total frustration of going from very active to not being able to get in bed. I still do my PT stretching exercises 3 4 times a day in an attempt to kept it limber also, I have a sever case of colitis so I have to watch what anti inflammatory I use Part two What is the REAL recovery off feet time for this surgery. I am a single woman with a consulting business. If I don't work, no money comes in the door.Part three I hear people feel INCREDIBLE after the surgery and can return to almost 100 % activity level. Is this true from your experience?Thank you SO much in advance for your feedback

last one lasted for 17 years, but still limped and had pain but not bad enough, about 2 months ago, wrecked my car, was hanging upside down for I don't know how long, complained about my left thigh being in pain but hospital er and hip doc in Charleston, SC said nothing was wrong, I put myself on crutches from day 1 as I knew something was wrong, pain was right where steering wheel would have banged into.about 1 month later, had weeded myself to 1 crutch since no one could find anything wrong. One night a month ago, I fell and went to Er who confirmed I had a fracture that they claimed was 6 to 8 weeks old, I did not injure myself then, I had broke my left wrist too. It was a Wed. when I fell, they did another hip replacement on Thursday, said they had to wait and make sure they had enough parts before going through with surgery, finally, Thursday, went to surgery, thought everything came out fine til they came and took my drink away at midnight and said I was scheduled for surgery on Friday, they wouldn't give me any more information til I saw the Doctor in the morning, when he came in, he said he thought everything went well until he looked at x ray and saw that the prosthesis was not long enough and they would have to redo it, so Friday, I went back to surgery, I stayed in hospital until that Monday when they transferred me to a rehab facility with strict instructions not to put any weight on left leg for 3 months, only to use big toe for balance, they said this new prosthesis was experimental consisting of ceramic, titanium and had wires protruding and they hoped that eventually the bone would grow into the prosthesis. I am still in wheelchair with an appointment for May 17, and still in extreme pain, worse is above my left knee on the left side, and other is across upper thigh on left, Is this normal, every time I try to bring my leg up into bed or couch, it hurts so bad I can't stand it. Still on pain medication which only takes the edge off, try to hide it from my husband when he is home but he can tell by the look on my face. I was up 3 days later and on walker with first 2, this is the first time I have been restricted to a wheelchair, being 17 years, I can't remember if the pain was this bad then.I am not sure whether to call doctor back and tell them or if this is normal for all I have been through, any information is greatly appreciated.
What are possible causes for severe swelling in foot up to calf after having total hip replacement?
Had a total hip replacement left hip , 18 months previously. Some swelling after surgery, but overall recovered quickly. Now after on feet for long periods 3hours, cooking , have SEVERE swelling in left foot, up to calf. Not occur EVERY time stand long time. My concern knowing swelling of LEFT foot , can be symptom with heart problems and since not occur all the time. Any POSSIBLE reasons related to hip replacement ?

Hi, I am looking for treatment for my uncle. He is suffering from Hip arthritis and his problem increases day by day, some time he start crying because of it. According to doctors in UK now he is in final stage of problem and there is only one solution its hip replacement surgery. Because this treatment is expensive in UK, we start looking it s in India. So, please suggest and doctor and hospital for treatment in India.
Should I get a hip replacement?
I am 45 years old and my hip has been bothering me for about 8 years. I can no longer do my job. I can not jump, run, jog, kick, and it is hard to bend down without keeping my leg with the bad hip straight. Wright now the pain is not an overwhelming issue. It does cause pain while I try to sleep, I have to keep moving around at night to sleep. If I do any of these activities then the pain becomes overwhelming. I have seen a doctor and they say I should have a hip replacement when I can not take the pain anymore. I am over weight but find it hard be active without causing pain. Anyone with who has been through similar problems and has advice it would be greatly appreciated.

i cant sleep at night even though i'm really tired i lay there been getting shivers 1 minute then sweats the next. i cant stop crying even though it upsets my 2 girls & i don't want to ruin their xmas i have never felt so depressed in my life low & down yes but this is far worse i was taking morphine upto 3 days ago as i cant take any other pain relief please advise i really feel desperate & hope these feelings pass very soon many thanks to m athlet & to ok xx

I have a hip replacement that is bad. It did not fail but is always painful. Can I get them to pay?
Can I get them to pay for my next surgery or what can i do in this situation. By the way it is the Profemur Z brand. It is 11 years old. SO i have had it a while but the entire time it has not been good.Well here is the issue. It is a proven bad replacement. It is one of the ones in the commercials. I had to go on long term pain management because of it.By the way I am 31 years old. Had it put in when i was 20. I recently found out it was one of the bad ones. bad parts.
Should my 35 year old daughter get a hip replacement now or wait for better developments?
my daughter has suffered for years with a painful hip joint. The doctors say wait for new developments like porcelain ball and cups. the cup being the scooped out part of the pelvis where the ball sits. She would love to have it now, get rid of the pain, but what do you all know that I don't? Help me advise her please. Thanks so much, you guys are great
What would a hot spot indicate after hip replacement surgery on a bone scan?
I had a bone scan 5 weeks after surgery that indicated an abnormal bone scan in the replaced area. Does it mean anything?

I am 39 years old and do not have health insurance. I recently had a car wreck and now require a hip replacement. Are there any provisions in medicare that would assist me with costs? Does social security provide for any short term disability for lost ability to work during rehabilitation? If not, are there any other routes for financial assistance? My income is less than $25,000 year. My injury is debilatating enough that without surgery I will be disabled for life.
