I manage my type one diabetes with exercise & good diet. Why do some people REFUSE to believe me?
I was diagnosed with type one diabetes at Christmas after a near fatal pancreatic illness. After leaving hospital I was prescribed 50 units of insulin a day which I very much needed as my blood sugar was usually between 20 & 40. Terrified of becoming ill again, I dedicated myself to a good diet with close observation of what increased my sugars & ever increasing exercise. Soon, after consulting a doctor I was taking only 20 units a day & often going 'hypo'. Now, I have had to stop injecting any insulin as my blood sugar is always between 4 & 7 except after a very large meal which isn't unusual.I've asked & answered a number of questions regarding blood sugar management on here & but for a couple of people the general attitude has been 'you can't possibly have type one' or 'you've been misdiagnosed'. I most certainly was NOT misdiagnosed & continue to see doctors on a regular basis who have told me that due to good diet & exercise my body is compensating for my damaged pancreas. Doctors, diabetic nurses & my general practitioner have all confirmed that I have type one & for now at least, I no longer need to inject. Why do some people REFUSE to accept this ?

How long does uncontrolled diabetes take to effect the eyes/cause blindness?
I know an African American male with diabetes and hypertension, mid 30's, normal body weight, diagnosed with diabetes about 3 years ago. He became blind in one eye, the other eye is bleeding and retina tearing. I understand it varies for everyone is this caused by not controlling the diabetes hypertension? Im asking because the patient is claiming that they take great care of their sugar and blood pressure. My guess is my friend is not?

Have I got diabetes permanently or temporarily?
Hi All,I am 31 years old.On 03rd April 2012 My FBS level was 194. Then doctor said I am having diabetes and asked me to completely avoid sugar and do regular exercise and didn't prescribe any medication. Over the last few weeks after following doctors orders my FBS levels were140.8, 131.9, 110.3 and today it was 94.7 18 May 2012 . But my PPBS is 99.6 27 April 2012 .My last six months were very stressful with the job and also I had sleeping disorders since the last employer wanted to work from 3PM in the evening to 12 midnight. But I quit from that job immediately I found out that I have diabetes and I took a vacation and expect to take the vacation till 30th June 3months . I enjoyed my vacation and spend some quality time with my family wife and 1 year old daughter . My father has diabetes. My problem is have I got diabetes or is it due to the stressful time that I had? Will my diabetes condition is temporary or permanent? please give your ideas. Many thanks.

I have a lot of stomach weight and type 1 diabetes, how can I lose this weight?
Hi, I am a female on my husbands accounts . I have type 1 diabetes, and I gain a lot of weight in my stomach to where I look pregnant. I generally take my insulin in my stomach, so I'm uncertain if this is why. It's really annoying because I get asked if I am pregnant a lot I'm not , and I do look like I am, sometimes. And then with my birth control, sometimes I bloat, and I REALLY look pregnant then. What can I do? Is there like a better diet plan for diabetics I can follow? I don't eat a lot, so I know it's not really because of that. I do need to exercise, though.

A Question on Diabetes?
My husband has type 2 diabetes and recently the results on the blood glucose machine have been in the 450 area. Now I know a ton of people are going to say " You need to go to the hospital" Yeah we get it but we are poor folk and going to the hospital for a massive emergency room bill of 700 dollars so they can pump him full of insulin then send him on his merry way until his blood sugar gets high again really isn't on our list of " Ta Dos" So with no insurance meaning he doesn't take any insulin, I was wondering if there was a natural way of bringing down his blood glucose? I was using the old Google machine and came across an article about a study on diabetic people and Vitamin C. Basically using Vitamin C for six weeks lowered their blood glucose. We are going to try this and hopefully it helps some what. Medicare won't take him because he isn't over the age of 65 and Medicaid won't because he isn't a woman. And we can't afford any insurance with with my job. So can anyone give me any ideas that I myself haven't already thought up? We don't have the money to sit there and buy " Healthy Food" like salads and diabetic food. That stuff doesn't fill you up and within the hour your hungry again, trust me we have tried this and it burned a huge hole in our pockets trying to afford all that food that didn't survive the two weeks. 1. I need REAL insurance that covers diabetic people under the age of 30 and cost no more then 50 dollars monthly. I don't care if it only covers test strips those damn things are expensive and if you test how often as recommend you will easily spend over a hundred dollars in the first week. 2. Massively cheap meals that are good for you and are easy and quick to make. 3. What are good snacks he should eat apart from normal meals?4. Drinks other then water good for him?5. Is it a good idea for him to go without eating something because his blood sugar is high? What should he do eat when it gets abnormally high for the diabetic person? I don't need kids on here answering me with looked up internet answers they fond on the some search engine. I want real diabetic people who are living through this that are willing to spread their knowledge I know I'm asking for the impossible but what else am I suppose to do?I'm sorry apparently I am not able to comment on my own post but make smaller changes like this. Thank you to the first comment and to the second comment listed below. I was with my husband when the doctor came in a told him that he had diabetes. His mother was a nurse and got him feel check ups at their office when she was still alive, he would have known if he had been born with Diabetes which is Type 1. Still thank you for your comment we are going to hospital later this week and I'll make sure they look into that.
