My mom keep on saying opposite words like she says "hot" when its "cold" is it early sign of dementia?
I've did some research on this and it appears that dementia symptoms is when they " forget" words or use the " wrong" words. But my mom is using the " opposite" words like when she was a cold cup of water she asks for a hot cup of water. She says " more" as " less" some examples are " I want a HOT cup of coffee" or " please give me MORE sugar" . Sometimes also replaces words that are opposite from each other like " air conditioner" and " heater" . So she might say something like " Its really hot in here please turn on the HEATER" . Her memory is fine though. She is 65 years old. Does this sound like dementia or regular age related memory decline? This has been happening alot more than usually in the past month though.

Is this a sign my dad is getting dementia?
Is this a sign my dad is getting dementia? When we go out to a resturant he does not normally go to he gets lost going to the restroom back to the table. Also the other day I was standing right next to the car and then he got in the car and did not unlock my door and started to drive away. Then he noticed before he drove out of the parking lot he forgot me.

Grandma has dementia, refuses to shower and denies that she needs help, what to do?
She is in her early 80s and her dementia is getting worse but she is still " aware" that she hates other people trying to help her to shower, change her clothes and brush her teeth. She doesn't remember a lot of things but every time we try to even bring the subject of " shower" up to her, she gets very irritated and we just don't want to hurt her because she fights back.It doesn't matter who tries to clean her up, it is not the person she is with. When she was young, she was a vain person, won't take supplements or her blood pressure meds because she thinks those are only for old people. Now, she has dementia, she thinks she already cleaned herself and changed her clothes when she really haven't changed or showered for weeks and she doesn't like the idea that she needs help from others to remind her, to clean her, to give her prescription medicines, etc. Also, she will nag us that we give her no privacy and doesn't respect her because we keep trying to strip her clothes and shower her and brush her hair, etc.She won't eat, all she would eat is donuts and she loves only black coffee when it comes to drinks. All she thinks of is, she is tired, she wants quiet and privacy and she needs to go to bed. She has lost a lot of weight. She lay down on her bed most of the time, she won't participate in any activity, not even watching TV or look at photo albums.Any suggestions? Is there a way for us to help her fall into a deeper but safe sleep so we can at least give her a sponge bath? Please help, thank you. Please read the whole explanation before answering, thanks She hates even just a sponge bath We did put her into a professional retirement home with assisted living. We have tried a few of them, big and small. Eventually the care home doesn't want her anymore because she won't co operate and causes trouble to the other residents. Like I said, it is not the people, she denies help because she thinks she already did it herself. I have worked with many dementia patients before and I have worked as a caregiver before and none of them is as hard as my own grandma. Thank you Lottie, I understand how you feel with your grandpa. Unfortunately, my grandma doesn't even take her clothes off, she wears the same clothes for weeks already. I did think of sleeping pills, I will find out if it is safe to do so. Thank you again.

Will lorazepam w/alcohol cause permanent dementia?
I have a family member who, within a month, has become increasingly confused. For example, she will think she is somewhere other than her own home. She was recently placed in an extended health care facility. Images of her brain do not show changes that would be responsible for dementia, and some are saying that the current " dementia" is b c of mixing lorazepam w alcohol. If this is true, would the dementia be permanent or is it possible that w detox she will regain her independence? Please help

How do I cope with my nana having dementia?
My nana was diagnosed with Alzheimer s last year and its really hard to cope. Lots of people reading this will think I am over reacting and feeling sorry for myself but I swear I'm not. You don't understand what it's like until it happens to one of your relatives. Anyway, when it first started, it was Ok. She would sometimes forget names and people but that was about it. But she has got really bad in the past few months and now she is violent towards my grandad because she forgets who he is, she constantly speeks nonsence, she talks to everyone she passes in the street as if she knows them, she is constntly confused, she refuses to wash, refuses to have her hair cut, thinks her parents are still alive, obsesses over small children and picks other peoples kids up, forgets who my sister is, and last week she slapped me in the face for no reason whatsoever.I know she can't help it, and it's part of her illness, and I'm not blaming her for anything, but its so hard for me and my family to cope with her. I love her to peices and it breaks my heart to see her this way. My grandad never told her she was ill, and now it's too late. If we told her now, she would forget within 30 seconds. Because she doesn't know, it makes it very hard for my mam and my grandad to talk about it, because we are starting to get help from social services. If nana hears them talking quietly, she knows it's about her, and gets really violent and annoyed. Its just so hard.My mam has serious anxiety and stress problems, and I am so worried about her. Everythings getting too much for me becuse I worry about nana, I get upset when mam is upset, and I just don't have a life because I have to allways help my mam to look after nana.I know you think Im sounding realy selfish and I should be thinking about what its like for everyone else in my family, but I really am going to snap or break down one day soon..Does anybody have any advise on how I can accept how things are and be happier and stress free? Thanks.

Is Risperidone safe for dementia patients?
According to alzheimers.org.uk site scripts documents info.php?documentID 110 " There are many anti psychotic drugs that are used to treat behavioural and psychological symptoms in dementia, although risperidone is the only one that is licensed for this use." but according to drugs.com risperidone.html " Risperidone is not for use in psychotic conditions related to dementia. Could this cause dementia?
My dad had a brain hemorrhage last year just under exactly 1 year. It was very severe and the doctors thought from the scans that he wouldn't survive. However he survived and recovered almost miraculously but there are still some symptoms caused by it. Anyway, he went to his doctors today after having some more tests and he told my dad that he will get dementia in the future. I wasn't there but my dad said he told him like this. He won't say much more ironically he said he forgot but I don't know if that's true he just changed the subject. Anyway is it true that a brain hemorrhage can cause demenita? I'm only 16 and thinking my dad is going to get dementia is killing me Does dementia always lead to Alzheimers, by the way? Can it be cured or how long will it be before the symptoms develop? Sorry but I really need to know. My dad is 47 and was is a heavy drinker but he is cutting down now after many years. I don't know if this makes a difference, I just know alcohol affects your brain cells or whatever. Thanks for answering

Dementia or vitamin deficiency?
Okay well I'm 21 and I'm worried that there may be something seriously wrong with me. My short term memory is awful. I can barely remember things that happened minutes before. My vocabulary speech is horrible. I'm constantly tripping over sentences, forgetting words. I can barely write a sentence without having to rewrite it multiple times, constantly misspelling the simplest words. I looked up the symptoms for dementia and it honestly sounded like me. But, I also smoke a lot of marijuana and cigarettes, don't take any vitamins and i have poor eating sleeping habits. Could it be dementia or just an unhealthy lifestyle and what can i do to fix it?Actually, there have been cases of people in their later 20's getting dementia so yeah.
