What factors tend to be associated with the onset of conversion disorder?
Can anyone explain how hysterical blindness / conversion disorder works?
I was wondering if someone could explain to me how hysterical blindness, also referred to as conversion disorder, works, specifically in terms of blindness? From what I gather the condition is largely mental, but I don't understand how the mental issue can create blindness.
Do I have symptoms of a conversion disorder?
For the past two years ive had this pressure tightness in my head. It makes me feel uncomfortable to talk to or be around people. Just to tell you right now i am not social phobic. I have had a brain scan and eeg and they found nothing. The only thing thats been helping is acupunture but the pressure is still there. Im thinking it was due to a stressful era back 2 years ago. What do you guys think?

Has anyone had conversion disorder that was treated and went away and how so?
My little sister has been diagnosed with conversion disorder for about a month now. They have her going to a psychologist to work out her stress but nothing has really helped. She shakes her arms constantly and then goes into fits that resemble tourettes. She's 15 years old, was going to be getting her license in 3 months and now she can barely function normal in society and has been pulled out of school until we can get it under control. I keep finding information online about conversion disorder but it's all fairly negative like she will have this forever. Are there any cures?
How to help child with conversion disorder?
We have a child, age 11, that after extensive testing, was thought to have conversion disorder. He goes into non epileptic seizures and stupors. If you even bring up that the unconscious mind could cause this, he gets super angry. He is now missing school, etc..all stressors have been ruled out. This all started with flu 3 months ago. Can anyone tell me about conversion disorder?
20 year old athletic college female has headaches, dizziness and fainting episodes. Many tests taken all negative, altho these symptoms started after she had a concussion a year ago. Her last fainting episode was 20 min. long.
Is this conversion disorder?
The doctor thinks that I might have a conversion disorder because all the mri's have turned out to be ok. These are my symptoms my mind feels numb, I have no emotion, No sexual drive, I have pretty much no memory, I have no thoughts at all, It feels like there's a weight pushing down on my head. And all of this just came on about 3 weeks ago. It's frustrating because I get worse everyday memory wise and ability to think. This is bad because I'm a songwriter and can usually think up creative ideas easily, but I've lost that ability. All of my plans are getting cancelled because of this. Just yesterday I realized I couldn't talk anymore and this worrying me.
Conversion disorder?
I believe that my mom has conversion disorder, but im not sure how to let the doctor know since they think they are always right. Over the last 3 years my mom has been in atleast 8 different hospitals and has had all the same tests ran and they are all negative. one hospital did say she was having psychogenic seiziure but not the one she is currently in. im looking for any help on this subject.

My neurologist just diagnosed me with conversion disorder. In conversion disorder, physical symptoms that are caused by psychologic conflict are unconsciously converted to resemble those of a neurologic disorder.I have so many physical symptoms. All my symptoms come and go. My left hand has paralysis on and off , I have tingling in my hands and feet, my head and neck roll in a dystonia way, my hands and feet curl in, twitch and shake.They've done tons of testing, including MRI's and everything comes out normal. I did have a childhood Trauma but its hard to believe that my mind would be exerting it self this way, but I guess that its possible. He recommended that I see a Neuropsychiatrist who would work with hypnosis to help the situation.

How would a clinician determine the difference between someone experiencing a conversion disorder and someone who is malingering?
