Fetal stroke, muscular problems...cerebral palsy?
My son has had problems with tight muscles on his left foot and leg since birth. We saw a pediatrician two days ago and after examination he said he believed that my son had suffered a fetal stroke at very early gestation. His intellectual abilities are high and he has no problems with speech, hearing or sight. I will obviously be asking these questions when we go to see the physiotherapist next week, but in the meantime I was wondering if this situation points to mild cerebral palsy? The pediatrician doesn't want to do a brain scan as my son is only three and it would require general anaesthetic.I know that cerebral palsy is caused by damage to the brain, and I just wondered if fetal stroke damage cerebral palsy. Like it is automatically what it is.Meh...this is all very difficult. Any help would be appreciated.

Developmental hip dysplasia in a toddler with mild Cerebral Palsy?
I have a 16 month old daughter. She has mild cerebral palsy, left sided hemiplegia. When she was 8 months old she developed a serious illness that took several months to treat. During this time she could not progress with her physiotherapy. When she was 12 months old she recovered and we were able to resume therapy and she has been progressing wonderfully. At a routine examination, she had an x ray of her hips and the doctor was not expecting to find anything wrong since her CP is mild. However, the X ray revealed that she has a dysplasia of both hips. The left side being slightly more than the right. The doctor was surprised and said that only 15 % of children with mild CP hemiplegia end up with this problem. Also my daughter was not showing any signs that anything was wrong when she had examined her.The doctor caught up with me to tell me the bad news during a physiotherapy session we were having at the hospital, I've not had a proper appointment to discuss it with a specialist and it will be a while before one gets arranged. She did mention that they will wait 6 months to do another X ray, and if her condition has not improved then surgery will be indicated. She told me that she has seen cases like this self correct...What I would like to know is how likely is it that this condition will self correct? I can't stomach watching her going through surgery and having her in a cast for months unable to move. Could anyone offer me any information about the likeliness she will not need surgery.. or brief information about the surgery and recovery if she will have to undergo the procedure. I am worried that since she already has CP which would cause a limp, that this whole thing would lower her chances of walking or worsen her gait..Just a note, when she had her X ray done, my daughter had just only learnt to creep. She had been rolling about for a few months as her form of mobility. But one week before that X ray was done was when she started to creep crawl on her tummy. The X ray was done three weeks ago. Since then she has also learnt to sit up from a lying position, and she is attempting to pull herself up attempting to stand.

Can Cerebral Palsy cause mood swings?
in adulthoodMy mother has cerebral palsy, but she also has unexplained mood swings. Her emotions are extreme. She will be overjoyed one moment then furious and screaming the next. Other times she cries for hours and just lays in bed all day. She had done this for as long as i can remember. I was just wondering if her Cerebral Palsy could be a contributing factor
