Could I develop aspiration pneumonia?
Last night while sleeping I vomitted into my mouth was on my back next thing I know I'm on my hands and knees in my bed, and vomit came out of my mouth and I was trying to breathe because I couldn't. My throat was burning pretty bad so I got up to go to the bathroom and get some air in my lungs. When I told my roommate about it she told me that I could have aspiration pneumonia.

Is there a way to predict how close to death a geriatric patient w/aspiration pneumonia & tachycardia may be?
My father, age 75, has been in a nursing home for a year after a massive stroke, and has dementia. He got better for a while, was even eating and responsive, but is now back on a feeding tube, permanent catheter, and has been hospitalized with pneumonia and a blood infection of unknown origin. The infections cleared up, and he was well enough to be released back to the nursing home. But now he seems to be aspirating a lot of his feeds, can't swallow or cough well, and just stares at us blankly when we try to communicate with him. We can't tell if he's in pain or not. He sleeps a lot. It's hard. Unfortunately, my siblings and I live in another city mom's the only one there with him regularly. Today I saw him, and he had a low grade fever. Breathing was very labored. The aide said his pulse rate was 120, which sounds very high to me. The doctor spoke with us about no more interventions, just comfort care due to poor quality of life We agree, but how long can something like this go on?

Gastroparesis and aspiration pneumonia?
Is there anybody out there that has had or know someone that has had severe gastroparesis, causing aspiration pneumonia even after a jejunostomy is placed?. My daughter has projectile vomited since birth but only started treatment when she was 1 year old. She has had various tests which comfirm gastroparesis and GERD and 3 years ago had a direct jejunostomy placed as her gastro jej kept migrating back into her stomach. The jej was excellent as it stopped her vomiting feed so she regained the vast amounts of weight she had lost, but she still vomits her own stomach secretions, even though she has a drainage bag on her gastrostomy , as a result of this she has suffered from aspiration pneumonia 4 times and had numerous other chest infections. Our initial thought was for a fundoplication but i've read that can be devastating when gastroparesis is also present. Any suggestions as I dont seem to be getting any more help from the gastro team and i fear i'm going to lose her if this carries on. She is 7 years old and has global developmental delay. Thank you

What is death following aspiration pneumonia like?
My father is 80 yrs old, very ill and has had a feeding tube for several months. He wants to remove the tube and continue feeding by mouth although he fails swallowing tests and will almost certainly contact aspiration pneumonia, which he understands. Has someone had the experience of witnessing someone fail and die with aspiration pneumonia? Is it different from regular pneumonia? I don't mean to be macabre, but my father is ready to die and does not want this extraodinary measure. But I'd like some info on what this decision means, in terms of pain and struggle. Thank you in advance.
Megaesophagus aspiration pneumonia?
okay, my dog is at the vet right now with iv's and is now being treated for megaesophagus. now, she also has aspiration pneumonia. ive read online so far that, aspiration pneumonia is the 'major cause of death'. please, if anyone knows what her chances are, i really need to know. my vet wont tell me much right now and of course im going to do my best. i have a 700 and something vet bill so don't try to tell me im not doing the right thing because she is getting everything available to her right now. ive never heard of this, and especially reading that its the major cause is killing me right now, please helpful answers only.to 'T' shut the f ck up. dont comment if you have nothing helpful to say you jerk. and you know what, your wrong, it means my dog inhaled some of the vomit you quack, it means shes really sick, much sicker and guess what asshole? once she gets the pneumonia, her chances of dying increase because its a major cause of death with megaesophagus, so shut your mouth, and go piss someone else off in a horrible situation. i could lose my dog, and your actually trying to be a smart ass. but guess what? your the one who doesnt know what the fuck your talking about.
