Need specific information about ascites and alcohol abuse?
How long does it take for this condition to occur from prolonged alcohol abuse? Would 3 4 days of straight binge drinking 40 % alcohol, each week for 2 years be enough to cause a unhealthy person to get ascites from liver damaged? When someone does get ascites, does the fluid build up slowly over time or does it occur suddenly in a night or two, when the liver can't take it anymore? How would one know if they had ascites? Is there signs or ways you can determine it? ex is there something you should feel when you press around your abdomen Your info is greatly appreciated

Is it dangerous to treat when you have severe low blood sodium due to dangerously low aldosterone? Is that the body's way to retain sodium so I don't die? If I'm not gaining weight, can I assume my abdominal bloating is not ascites?
My weight is steady but I've been extremely bloated and uncomfortable as if my entire abdomen wants to expand and feels hard....during the last many days. It's not a bathroom problem.. that is fine and I don't feel gassy. Can I assume it's not ascites if my weight is stable?

My fiancee's stomach protrudes out...almost like a beer belly but he doesn't drink...it's pretty hard...but not too hard...it's not grossly protruding out like you see in the ascites pictures...but he's pretty thin...so you can tell on him...how would you know if you have ascites...if he did it would probably a mild case...anyone know how I can tell myself?
Does anyone know about cirrohssis particularly accumulating ascites/pleural effusion after 5 yrs of TIPS work?
My father had the TIPS procedure done 5 years ago because he had ascites accumulation and it went away after TIPS but now ascites is back plus pleural effusion. My dad has cirrohssis of the liver and according to the doctor his TIPS is working well so why does he have ascites and pleural effusion then?

She is living with us and has full time caregivers in addition to Hospice. She's trying to avoid invasive treatments like a Plurex catheter. We're managing it with morphine, low salt diet etc....
How dangerous is ascites in heart patients?
My husband is 60 years old and suffers from end stage congestive heart failure dilated cardiomyopathy . Lately his condition seems to have worsened and he has developed an enlarged liver and ascites we have not yet gotten a diagnosis of the cause of the enlarged liver . He also has COPD. He takes 11 kinds of medication including diuretics daily. The medications have made an enormous difference compared to when he did not take them, under the care of a previous physician but it seems that now he has come to a point where his disease can no longer be effectively managed with drugs. The ascites worries me and I am trying to find out how dangerous it is and or if it is a sign that this is the very end stage of his disease whether his death is imminent . Also, I would like to know how most people with congestive heart failure die, suddenly in their sleep or by wasting away. He does have an implanted defibrillator. Any insight would be appreciated.

my MIL who is 72yrs old and has a large ovarian cyst for the past 21 2 years. Sixmonths ago she was diagnoised with breast cancer and massive ascites. Her present CT Scan report impression is large complex cystic leasion almost filling up pelvic and abdominal cavity consistent with mucinous ovarian neoplasm.HDVN leftSuboptimal visualisation of liver rt kidney.Fnac report is Trucut boipsy Section shows numerous duct lines by atypical cells and are seen in sheets, cords and wide ribbons. Cells show moderate degree of pleophorism, high NC ratio. The backgound showe fibrous tissue with collegenisation. Trucut biopsy shows features of DCIS and infiltrating ductal carcinoma.she had TB meningitis about 10 yrs back.Can anyone let me know the real state of her condition and what is her life expectancy.
How to get rid of ascites?
My fiance has a majority of problems, but the doctor said he is very lucky that he has a second chance to live He had a serious alcohol problem, and got sick with jaundice looking skin and eyes. We went to the hospital and they told us he had an enlarged liver. They said it would take 2 3 months for it to get back to normal again. He also has hepatitis from drinking which caused ascites which is fluid around the liver and other organs They said his ascites sacs were very small and would be hard to " tap" So after 13 days in the hospital he was realeased. He is on a salt restriction diet and doesnt have over 1,000 mg. of salt. And he has two directics pills which he has been taking for the past 2 days. It has gotten better because he was always having adominal pain... but his stomach is so bloated and he looks pregnant because of the fluid. I dont know if the directics are exactly working.... he should be peeing more. He will take the pill in the morning and wont pee till 2 hrs later... Is this normal? Does it take a while for the pills to go in his sytem and work? Im so confused. Please help
